Just imagine – You wake up from a strange slumber. You try to get up but you cannot move. You realise you are tied down with rope. Then you hear a blaring horn and you turn your head to see a train rushing toward you. You scream but then the voice is lost as the train runs over you tearing you up into pieces. That is how this brutal novel starts.

From the very beginning, I was drawn into the story. The sheer violence of killing someone by making a train run over them sent chills down my spine. Trying to find connections between the murders and trying to understand the motive behind all this before the killer could strike again was frustrating, and I could feel the tension throughout the novel. On top of that, our protagonist Kay Hunter has her own personal investigation of an old case which almost destroyed going on which faces some drastic opposition – an opposition that will do anything to stop her. Both these plots kept me engaged the whole time. It made me think and try to solve the cases. But, of course, the author is always a step ahead of us and gives loads of mini and major twists to keep us busy. At one point I thought I got it all figured, and then a twist came which made me do a complete 360. I slapped myself on the head and wondered why I didn’t think that before. Being written in short chapters added to the pace of the novel and made it feel like a ticking bomb. By the end of the novel I was completely satisfied and happy and pumped to read the next book in the series.

Final Verdict –

Will to Live by Rachel Amphlett gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.
