When a road traffic accident on a dark autumn night uncovers a disturbing conspiracy, Detective Sergeant Kay Hunter’s investigation exposes a ruthless serial killer exploiting vulnerable young women.

With her enemies unmasked and her career spiralling out of control, Kay’s determination to seek vengeance for the victims brings her dangerously close to those who want to silence her.

Undeterred, she uncovers the real reason behind a plot to destroy her career and sets in motion a terrifying chain of events.

Could Kay’s need for revenge be her undoing, or will she survive to see justice served?

If haven’t already have author Rachel Amphlett’s works on your TBR, then add it this instant! In simple words, this book was a marvelous and exciting ride! Over the last three books in this series, there was an underlining tension brewing, a subplot with Kay trying to find answers to the questions that ruined her life and career. And in this book, the volcano erupts. Finally we get to see the clash between our protagonist Detective Kay Hunter and the criminal boss Jozef Demiri. The clash which remained behind curtains all through the previous books gets the front stage. And let me assure you, it gets all messier and bloodier than ever before. This time I was actually afraid for Kay, worried that the bad guys will win. God knows how many times I had held my breath and tried to make Kay turn back, to leave all this getting-revenge thought and go back to her life. But if Kay did that, left all and moved on, we wouldn’t have this amazing story to read, would we? The last 15 percent were absolute blast. I said it in my Instagram post and I’ll say it here again – it felt as if I am in super high speed car and the author is driving, we are cutting corners and drifting away, racing against time, racing towards conclusion. And we don’t even have seatbelts on! It was absolute adrenaline rushing sequence! And as one story came to an end another one popped up, making me want to grab the next book immediately. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 5.

This Detective Kay Hunter series is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ!

A major suggestion though – Read book 1 to 3 first to completely understand this book. Only then you’ll feel the right impact of this book.

Final Verdict –

Hell to Pay by Rachel Amphlett gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.
