How far would you go to catch a serial killer?
Just when Ruari musters the courage to confess his love for best friend Lorna, she goes missing. When Lorna’s body is found in the Campsies, Ruari sets out to retrace her last steps in the hopes of finding her killer – but somebody has beaten him to it. Now the hunt is on for a serial killer terrorising Glasgow.
Dark of Night is a fast-paced, twisty serial killer thriller set in Glasgow, turbo-charged with Scandi-esque noir and black humour.
When Ruari is on his way to confess his love to Lorna, his best friend, you are with him in the nervousness and the anticipation of the execution and consequence of the confession. But then when you end up knowing that Lorna will never get to hear Ruari’s confession, your heart goes for him. This fast paced book is sure to take you on a ride through the dark alley. And though all the characters were black and white, could you trust anyone of them, knowing that one of them might be the ruthless serial killer? I loved each twist this book offered. A couple of them I could make out but that didn’t diminish the effect the book wanted to press on me. There was a number of parts in the books which I thought could have done away with, but again that didn’t affect the final impression. Overall, this was a fun read, with an amazing cliffhanger end. Now I will have to read Episode 2 if I want to know what happened to Ruari.
Final Verdict:
Dark of Night by CS Duffy gets 4 out of 5 stars from me.
