She can’t see the killer
But the killer can see her…
Naomi Hannah has been blind since birth. Struggling with living in the small, claustrophobic town of Balkerne Heights, Naomi contemplates ending her life. But before she can, Naomi stumbles across the body of a young woman who has been brutally murdered. She senses someone else there at the scene – watching her. Naomi may not be able to see the killer’s face, but she is still the only person who can identify him.
For Naomi, this frightening truth changes everything: she realises that she wants to live, at the very point at which her life is in greatest peril. As the police begin hunting the person responsible and the bodies pile up, Naomi must lie in wait and answer the question that hangs her fate in the balance: why did the killer let her live?
In a town this small, the murderer must be close, perhaps even before her very eyes…

Want to know my reaction when I completed this book?
My heart was pounding against my chest. My stomach was churning. My hands were shaking. My eyes couldn’t travel fast enough across the words. And when they did and read the last line of the book, I was laughing and crying like a mad woman, slapping my forehead, cursing and not believing that this book could be that amazing.
I don’t understand how the author, Jack Jordan, can write such a story with so much conviction. The book felt so real that chills ran down my spine. The type of books Jack writes makes me wonder how he himself is not a psychopath! Or maybe he is but is good at hiding it!
There’s not a single thing I didn’t like about this book! The plot is nimble and reads like a piece of cake. The tension is taut and though there are places where we get a breather it doesn’t go off-track. And that twist in the end… I have to say Jack is a genius. Never in a hundred years would I have seen that coming.
The fact that the protagonist, Naomi, is blind adds so much edge to the story. You, as a reader, are in constant worry for her and want to make sure she is okay. The other characters, including the killer, add such good flavours to the recipe you can’t help but keep enjoying yourself.
The jewel on top of this crown, aka this book, is the writing style. I believe this is the only time in my reading life so far where I found the author’s writing addictive. I have read a couple of other works by the same author and I have to say that this addiction is present in them too. The way Jack plays with words is, many times, mesmerising.  It’s very rare to find such a feel in a psychological thriller. This is one such addiction I don’t want to be cured from.
There’s a scene towards the end of the book where a character comes to know about a shocking fact and he gulps down his Scotch in one go and refills it. Now look, I haven’t ever drank a drop of alcohol but after what I read I felt like having a drink myself.

Final Verdict:
I don’t have all the stars of the galaxy but at least I have 5, so I’ll give them all away.

Before Her Eyes by Jack Jordan gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.
