On A Small Island follows Ylfa as she tries to solve the mystery of her missing sister and the brutal murder that’s far too close to home. When the police doesn’t take things seriously enough, Ylfa takes things into her own hands and ends up unearthing far more devastating dark secret which will change everything.

This novel is one of the most interesting and intriguing 1st person POV crime fiction novel I have ever read. The novel is not just a simple story – it makes the readers think, about the novel and about their own lives. Reading this novel also made me think about the choices we make and their results we have to face.

The plot is complex, chilling and mesmerizing and is nothing close to your imagination. The pace is fast, you can complete the whole book in one sitting. This novel also provided me with an antagonist I cared about and sympathized with. Not all antagonists are bad from the beginning of time. Some are made into one because of the circumstances they faces. And these kinds of antagonists are more dangerous as they have the pain and the desire of revenge to motivate them and nothing stops them.

Final Verdict –

On A Small Island by Grant Nicol gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.
