It starts with the girl. How it ends is up to DC Aidan Waits.

Isabelle Rossiter has run away again.

When Aidan Waits, a troubled junior detective, is summoned to her father’s penthouse home – he finds a manipulative man, with powerful friends.

But retracing Isabelle’s steps through a dark, nocturnal world, Waits finds something else. An intelligent seventeen-year-old girl who’s scared to death of something. As he investigates her story, and the unsolved disappearance of a young woman just like her, he realizes Isabelle was right to run away.

Soon Waits is cut loose by his superiors, stalked by an unseen killer and dangerously attracted to the wrong woman. He’s out of his depth and out of time.

How can he save the girl, when he can’t even save himself?

This book instantly grabbed hold of me and never let go. This book was like a walk down the dark alley, and it’s night time and you’re all alone. You can see that the way ahead looks creepy. Your gut tells you to go the opposite direction. But there you are, with all your insides twisted, walking down the way you know may turn out to be nasty. And that is why I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It is difficult to accept but vices like drugs and abuse are prevalent in society. But then books like Sirens takes you deeper into the rabbit hole and shows you how wicked the place is. The plot of this book takes you on a field trip to the world of drugs. It not only shows how the business operates but also shows you what the consequences are of any sort of betrayal. Interwoven with this, is the case of the runaway daughter of a powerful man, solving which causes more problems than solutions. The protagonist, Detective Aidan Waits is the anti-hero who is perfect man to be stuck in these situations. I, as a reader, knew that he is not wrong, but then everyone else thinks the other way. So how does he redeem himself and get out of all this mess was a treat to read. This book is beautifully written, with quite a number of graphic descriptions of violence which sent chills down my spine. I was not bored for a single moment in this novel and wanted keep reading to know more. I enjoyed every twist and turns in the book, especially the conclusion to the runaway case (I sort of saw that coming, but still was blown away when all was revealed). All in all, this is a book that every crime fiction lover should read. Looking forward to more amazing reads from our author.

Final Verdict –

Sirens by Joseph Knox gets 4.5 out of 5 stars from me.
